District Hospital Chengannur is one of the major healthcare centers in Alappuzha District, located close to the Main Central Road. It began on 18/12/1943 as a district dispensary with 30 beds. A 10-bed family planning unit was later added, increasing the capacity to 40 beds. On 07/12/1987, the hospital underwent a major expansion with an additional 100 beds, raising the total to 140. In December 2015, it was officially upgraded to a district hospital, and since April 2016 it has been managed by the Alappuzha District Panchayath. The hospital now has a sanctioned capacity of 190 beds.
