The hospital was established on 18/12/1943 as a district dispensary with 30 Beds. Then a family planning unit with 10 beds was added to make it a hospital with 40 beds. On 07/12/1987,100 more beds were added to make the capacity of 140 beds.
In December 2015, this hospital was upgraded to a district hospital. Since April 2016, it has been functioning under the control of Alappuzha District Panchayath. The sanctioned bed strength is 190.
